TJ Motuga is a BSW intern with a strong foundation in trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and strength-based practice. As a Social Work student at Utah Valley University, where he will graduate in the spring, TJ brings both academic insight and hands-on experience to his work with teens, young adults, and families.
He holds an associate degree in Social Science and has worked in a variety of mental health settings, including the Boys and Girls Club and residential treatment centers for troubled youth. His work has focused on helping clients transition back into their communities, build coping and social skills, and develop independence. TJ is known for his ability to build rapport and empower clients through a client-centered approach, always respecting their autonomy and unique cultural backgrounds.
TJ’s passion for social work is deeply personal. Growing up without access to many resources, he understands the importance of advocacy and support for vulnerable populations. His cultural roots emphasize family and caregiving, and he brings that same compassion and commitment to his professional practice.
He enjoys working with diverse populations, especially teens and young adults navigating life transitions. He also values supporting families, recognizing the healing that can come from strengthening the family unit.
Outside of work, TJ is an avid sports fan and athlete. He loves traveling, hiking, swimming, singing, attending concerts, and exploring new cuisines—activities that reflect his vibrant and adventurous spirit.
